Cell therapy in 3D : Organoids ? I Laurence Daheron I In the Stem Cell Jungle

Laurence Daheron, Phd, Head of the iPS Core Facility at the Harvard Stem Cell Institute, on the organoid format for next generation cell therapies.

I mean, for transplantation, I don’t know if the new system, the organoid system, will be very helpful at this point because you cannot really control what are the cells in this 3D structure. And for transplantation, you would rather have something that is well defined, but it’s really really interesting to study connection between cells, and to study the environment of the cells. So I see a lot of applications for research in the first place. Obviously there would be applications for transplantation as well in the future. But being able to recapitulate a mini tissue and find out you know, all the connections between cells and the micro environment, will be key for the field.
